Team 30-Minute Spacing & Cutting Session
⏱ Total Time: 30 Minutes
📍 Location: Half-Court
👥 Participants: Team (with-team)
🎒 Gear: 2 x basketballs, 1 ring, team singlets, runners
This half-court team workout teaches junior players fundamental off-ball offensive concepts: maintaining 4-metre floor spacing, making sharp backdoor cuts against overplay, screening away from the ball, and executing drive-and-kick reads when penetrating the key.
The Routine
- Perimeter Backdoor Warmup (6 mins): backdoor-cut-drill - Reading aggressive overplay on the wing, planting the outside foot, and cutting backdoor toward the ring for an uncontested catch.
- Screen Away Team Movement (8 mins): give-and-screen-away - Passing to the right wing and setting a solid off-ball screen on the opposite side to free a teammate curling to the top of the key.
- Drive and Kick Penetration Spacing (10 mins): 3v3-spacing-drive-and-kick - Ball handler penetrates the key, draws defensive help, and kicks out to perimeter teammates who maintain 4-metre spacing.
- Perimeter Curl Finisher (6 mins): chair-curls-shooting - Curling tightly around simulated screens at both elbows of the key, catching on the inside pivot, and firing balanced mid-range jump shots.
