Rapid Fire Spot Shooting
π Gear Needed: 2 x basketballs, 1 ring, partner (rebounder/passer)
β± Suggested Time: 5 - 10 minutes
π₯ Participants: Partner or Team (2-3 players)
π Space: Half-Court
π Difficulty: Intermediate
π Instructions
- Court Alignment: The shooter sets up 3 to 4 metres from the ring along the perimeter of the key. The partner acts as the rebounder/feeder, positioned under the ring holding two basketballs.
- Clock Start: The coach or partner starts a 60-second timer. The shooter begins at the right wing.
- High-Cadence Rhythm: The passer fires a crisp chest pass to the shooter. The shooter catches with prepared hands, steps into their shot, and releases with full form.
- Relocation & Feed: As the first shot is in the air, the shooter slides to the next perimeter spot (top of the key). The rebounder quickly feeds the second ball into the shooterβs hands while tracking the first ball off the ring.
- Continuous Rotation: The shooter continues cycling continuously between 3 spots (right wing, centre key, left wing) for the entire 60 seconds. Count total made shots. Switch roles so each partner completes two 60-second burnout rounds.
π‘ Coaching Cues
- Early Shot Pocket: Have your hands open and ready to catch the next ball before your feet have even arrived at the spot.
- Do Not Shorten the Release: When your legs grow fatigued in the final 20 seconds, resist the urge to rush or push with your chest. Continue jumping with full knee bend and holding your high follow-through.
- Chest Passes with Zip: The feeder must deliver accurate, waist-to-chest passes right into the shooterβs shooting pocket without making them reach.
π Variations & Progressions
- Make It Easier: Use 1 basketball with a slower tempo from 2.5 metres out, focusing on pure footwork and balance without a time limit.
- Make It Harder: β3-Make Advanceβ β shooter cannot move to the next spot until they make 3 shots, racing to clear all 3 spots around the key in under 45 seconds.
